Tomix track cleaner DCC conversion Print

Tomix Track Cleaner DCC conversion

For this conversion you will need to have purchased the DCC conversion board fo this model from the Dapol online shop or at the Dapol stand at shows.

Remove the track cleaner from the packaging, and please test it thoroughly ensuring correct operation. Using the extraction tool included within the track cleaner packaging, remove the vacumn cleaner attachment in the bottom of the unit.

Then, unscrew the bogie retaining screw for the bogie under the 'on-off' switch and remove the bogie.

Remove the vacumn filter, and the cap from the cleaner reservoir, plus the brass weight to be found under the cap.

You can then remove the plastic housing above the bogie you have just removed. Then take out the metal cast weight, and then gently pull up both the motor and the circuit board that are now visible.

You will note that the circuit board 'grips' the motor with the 2 brush holders on the motor touching the metal plates of the circuit board. You can easily slide the motor away from the board to separate them.

Now, using the DCC ready board (please note we have used the existing board for this 'conversion' until more stocks are received when we will update this page). Replace the motor into the new replacement board with the 6 pin DCC socket facing upwards.

Replace the cast weight into its allocated position, and you will notice a 'groove' cut out of the end of the casting directly above the 6 pin socket. Remove the weight, and add a 6 pin DCC chip, and then bend the chip through 90 degrees so that when the cast weight is replaced, the chip will fit into the 'groove' in the weight, but be verticle to the circuit board. the 'groove' is marked with a red arrow on the picture below. The chip should not break if gently bent while installed in its NEM 651 socket. Please consult your chip manufacturer if in any doubt about this operation, as Dapol cannot be held responsible for broken chips during installation.

It is advised that some insulation tape, or kapton tape etc is used to insulate the DCC chip from the metal cast weight.

Ramove the on/off switch from inside the main body of the track cleaner as this is not needed for DCC operation and may hinder re-assembly. Reassemble the track cleaner as a reverse to the dissassembly and programme your chip as per normal.

You have now converted your Tomix track cleaner to DCC control, please program your chip accordingly on a DCC dedicated program track and then re-test.
