You cannot 'programme on main', and it does not seem to like my ESU 51900 decoder tester/JMRI rig. So I have to use a dedicated programme track, something I have not used for years.
Surprisingly, the leaflet that accompanies the decoder - version V1.3 makes no mention of this; Why not? So I 'fried' it and sent it back to Dapol. The replacement has just arrived.
'Proceed with caution' is the watchword........
Very sorry to hear you have had an issue with your decoder. The imperium decoders are compatibal with most if not all set ups and are programmable on the main track. If you had contacted us i am sure we could have offered you some assistance with your difficulties in programming the decoder, however as far as i am aware this is our first contact with you and therefore we were not aware you were having an issue. If you have any issues with your replacment please contact us at sales@dapol.co.uk and your message willbe forwarded on to ur DCC / DCC Sound Enginrer.
Came across these two reviews because I was looking for a 21 pin 5+ function decoder for the new Dapol 121bubble car that I've bought ,,,,anyway I first installed a Hornby sapphire decoder because I wanted to set up auto control ,,,after installing the sapphire I had motor control ,directional lighting only worked when the controller speed setting was a even no ,,IE 2 or 4 etc ,on a odd number they would go out so as you build up speed on the controller the lights were on/off/on/off,only had cab lights at the van end an no carriage lights ,,,so installed a Lenz standard ,visa a 8 to 21 pin adapter,,,this decoder only gave me motor control,,,,so I succumbed to fitting a Hornby r8249 8 pin ,via adapter,,,,this one gave me motor control, directional lights which DID NOT go on/off/on/offand only cab lights at the van end ,,,,so after writing all this the only solution is I suppose is one of these Dapol decoders,,,,,
When the Imperium instruction sheet says that the configuration guide is available on the website, you expect to find it as a download. Sadly it isn't and so far Dapol have not responded to my question where to find it.
After sales service leaves an awful lof to be desired. As school reports used to say, "Must do better".
Apart from that, at least the decoder controls the interior lights, which is more than even a Zimo decoder does.
Price is good but you get zero support for advance programming this decoder and no help is available from the Dapol website anywhere........... Very Poor
I purchased a couple of these for two new Dapol Class 122 & 121 Bubblecars and the NMRA Standard CV programming for the lighting control like Dimming does not work but causes the lights to flash or strobe depending on the CV value you use for dimming the stupidly bright lights that are more like super spot lighting.
I'm not impressed with Dapols lack of giving its customers important/required/relevant data sheets for this product for advanced users.
Another great product let down by poor manufacture support.
I recommend this decoder if you don't care about advance programming and want something that's plug in and play but has it stands of today (9th April 2018) Advance programmers should give it a miss and get a different brand that has a far better product support.
