ALL UK-PRODUCED LMS STANIER CORRIDOR COACHES

Dapol has been working behind the scenes to upgrade the much-loved LMS Stanier Corridor coach tooling—and the results are almost ready to break cover.

The upgraded coaches will be available in two body styles: Brake Third and Composite. Each will be offered in three classic liveries: LMS Lined Maroon, BR Carmine and Cream, and BR Lined Maroon.

We’ve included images of the samples produced so far, giving you an early look at what’s on the way.

Prototype Background

These coaches were designed by William Stanier in the 1930s and are known as Period III coaches with the 57ft brake being 1933 and the 60ft being built in 1935. They were in use with the LMS and BR until the 1960s. When they were superseded by the MK1 coaches which the design of was partially influenced by these coaches. They carried liveries such as LMS lined maroon, BR crimson and cream and BR lined maroon. Whilst not the same diagram, several LMS period III corridor coaches are preserved on the Severn valley railway.

Tooling Upgrades

The tooling for these coaches can trace its origins back to the Airfix range of the 1980s. We have now enhanced the models with upgraded underframe detailing, bringing them closer to the standards expected by today’s modellers while retaining an affordable price.

The original plastic wheels have been replaced with new metal wheelsets, while the windows have also been improved. The moulded window surrounds have been removed from the body, with the frame detail now printed directly onto the glazing for a finer, more refined appearance.

  • New separately fitted underframe details.
  • Dynamo added.
  • Vacuum cylinders upgraded with separately fitted parts.
  • Extra framing added.
  • Brake shafts added.
  • Upgraded bogie pivot fixing.
  • New UK produced metal wheels.
  • New adaptor clips for NEM pockets.
  • Glazing polished.
  • Window bars printed instead of thick plastic.
